VoIP another example of how online technology can help businesses

British businesses who have invested in online server backup facilities might already be aware how much modern technology can help them.

According to Timico, another way firms can make lives easier for their workforce is to install voice over internet protocol (VoIP) facilities.

Chief technology officer and Itspa council member Trefor Davies claimed that such systems are growing in popularity mainly because they are simple to use.

"The VoIP revolution quietly happened some time ago," he said.

"Most business phone systems sold are now VoIP. Whilst you might still be using your old fashioned telephone, the call may well be carried using VoIP, especially if it is to an international destination."

The expert claimed that it is only a matter of time before the entire country moves over to VoIP phones as it is gradually happening now.

He predicted that the future of communications in the UK would be a mixture of different types of digital media, with video and internet-carried audio at the forefront of the changes.

"People will still want to talk to people but often this will be part of another conversation that started perhaps as an instant message which then gets escalated to a telephone or video call," Mr Davies forecast.

"For example, people using social networking sites will see that someone is online and click to make a call."

The technology specialist added that the availability of VoIP on Google+, Facebook and other platforms has made video calling a lot easier.

"This has been available using Skype or MSN for a while, but acceptance of the technology seems to be much greater now that it is embedded in social networks."

Firms who actively use VoIP and have been impressed with the results might also put faith in secure online backup to ensure that their sensitive data remains intact, even if something happens to their own servers.
