Such is the popularity of smartphones and other online devices that businesses which do not embrace technology face being left behind in the digital age.
While there was once a time fairly recently when firms could get away with storing all their documents in paper form, things have changed rapidly over the past decade and workers now expect to be able to access data at the touch of a few buttons.
As such, enterprises looking to keep abreast of the fast-moving world of technology can invest in a document scanning service to ensure they have secure online document storage that allows staff to pull up the information they need whether they are in the office, attending a meeting offsite or working from the other side of the world.
Evidence of the smartphone era can be found in recent Westcoastcloud research, which found that children as young as four are being introduced to iPhones, Blackberrys and other devices.
The study, which was published last week (September 21st), showed that parents feel it is appropriate for their kids to own such technology, with one in ten already having an Apple-branded smartphone in their possession.
Of the parents of 2,000 children surveyed, it was found that 17 per cent bought their kids a smartphone after being pestered by their child.
While the kids may have wanted access to the technology or to appear cool to their peers, 68 per cent of mums and dads saw it as a way of keeping tabs on their offspring.
Juniper Research senior analyst Howard Wilcox predicted that use of such devices will continue to grow, with more near-field communication (NFC) products being used.
"NFC technology, involving the embedding of tags in a wide range of devices and locations will have profound impact on business in future right across many verticals," he said.
"Examples include NFC baggage tags in airlines and the NFC enabled car."
