Keeping the pressure off IT staff with data management

A new survey reveals that the majority of IT professionals worldwide struggle with the demands of data security.

A new survey reveals that regardless of industry or geographical location, IT professionals tend to struggle when it comes to keeping their organisation’s data safe and secure – something that’s exacerbated by conflicting priorities and workforces too small to keep up to speed.

According to A View From The Top, authored by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, or the (ICS)², the majority of IT staff (72 per cent) say that the vulnerability of enterprise data is one of their chief concerns.

However, they’re also often left having to make a choice between two paradoxical demands. Most respondents told the (ISC)² that their top priorities were fighting off reputational damage and IT service downtime, but actually spent their working days carrying out administrative tasks instead.

Some 74 per cent said they spent most of their time thinking about governance, risk and compliance, for instance – like making sure data isn’t stored in a way that contravenes regulations.

Furthermore, most IT departments appeared to be understaffed too, with 77 per cent and 63 per cent of respondents in the public and private sectors respectively citing personnel shortages as one of the problems they faced. However, 61 per cent of IT professionals claimed business conditions were preventing them from hiring new recruits.

If your organisation hopes to undertake a major data capture or document scanning job in the near future, the (ISC)²’s report is sure to raise a few concerns. However, these issues can be addressed easily if you turn to an electronic document management solution like Dajon’s.

For instance, our cloud service for enterprises offers the following benefits:

1. It prevents against unauthorised access with a formidable range of industry-standard security features, including end-to-end encryption and intrusion protection, so sensitive assets won’t fall into the wrong hands.

2. All cloud activity leaves an audit trail, which is a key part of regulatory compliance and makes it easy to find out if data was looked at when it shouldn’t have been.

3. By keeping your business-critical information on the cloud, you’re safeguarding against the problems that might arise if local systems fail. Similarly, employees are less likely to put data at risk by carrying it around on unsecured memory sticks.
